About WikiSchools
WikiSchools helps parents, researchers and school staff examine public school data without having to interpret a government spreadsheet. It currently covers 23,334 schools across 17 selected cities.
Who runs WikiSchools
WikiSchools is operated by Vixoria Technologies, based in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India. The WikiSchools data team is responsible for the import rules, calculations and written explanations. You can reach us at vijit.panwar44@gmail.com.
Why we built it
A raw school record can tell you that a school reported 900 pupils and 38 teachers, but those figures are hard to understand in isolation. WikiSchools adds district context, careful explanations and nearby-school links to help someone form a shortlist for further research.
We do not publish a single “best school” score. A family’s priorities cannot be reduced to one government-data ratio, and a high position in a list is not sold to schools.
Where the information comes from
School facts come from the 2023–24 returns in the UDISE+ Basic Details of Schools source record, distributed through the India Data Portal and attributed to the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India. WikiSchools retrieved this extract on . The source record declares the Open Data Commons Attribution Licence (ODC-BY).
Ratios, rankings, cleaned place names and nearby-school comparisons are WikiSchools calculations. They are not government judgements or figures supplied by the listed school.
How profiles are made
School pages are produced automatically from fixed formulas and a reviewed template. We standardise difficult source labels, suppress known location problems and publish only records that contain enough information to be useful. No generative AI is used to invent school facts or reviews.
The complete formulas, publication rules and known limitations are documented on our methodology page. Its last review was .
Our publishing principles
- Show the reporting year beside every school profile.
- Keep official facts separate from WikiSchools calculations.
- Explain what a measure cannot prove, not only what it appears to show.
- Do not accept paid placement in school lists or rankings.
- Provide a correction route on every school profile.
- Remove thin records instead of creating pages only to attract searches.
What the numbers cannot tell you
A lower student-teacher ratio does not prove better teaching. The records do not establish safety, how children are treated, current fees, admission availability or whether a school suits a particular child. Figures also lag because schools report annually. Use WikiSchools to investigate and compare, then confirm important details directly with the school.
Coverage
Coverage is currently 17 cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Thane, Surat, Patna, Lucknow, Kolkata, Noida, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Ghaziabad. We publish a profile only when a record passes the quality rules described in the methodology. More places can be added after the same checks are completed.
Found something wrong?
Please use the correction form. We can correct WikiSchools’ display and investigate source problems, even though only the school or relevant authority can change the official annual return.
